Course Content:
Thorough knowledge of international law and its role as an international legal framework for the functioning of countries and other factors, as well as means of achieving foreign policy goals. Emphasis will be given on the ratio of international law and foreign policy. There will also be focus on the method of use and the role of international law as a conceptual base and procedural basis for regulating issues of the contemporary international community.
1. Introduction to the latest doctrine on international law, international relations and foreign policy.
2. Introdution to some of the latest trends in the development of international law, such as, inter alia:
– The exercise of universal criminal jurisdiction (Rome Statute of the ICC; definition and problem of crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, crimes of aggression); the principle aut iudere aut dedicare; immunity problem.
– International environment protection law.
– The latest development of international treaty law, including the issue of succession to international treaties.
3. Development of international protection of minorities and the right of peoples to self-determination in the context of foreign policy.
4. “Case study”:
– Slovenian-Austrian relations between law and foreign policy.
– The emergence of country “Kosovo”.
