Guidelines for Blended Learning Delivery
New University, as a student-centred institution, implements a blended learning approach. This mode of delivery facilitates greater accessibility to lectures and enhances their quality, while also ensuring a higher level of inclusion for students who, for various reasons, are unable to attend traditional classroom lectures.
Blended learning delivery means that lectures take place in the traditional format in a lecture hall, while simultaneously being streamed live via the online e-classroom platform. This allows students to review lectures (e.g. for revision purposes before examinations) or watch them at a later time if they were unable to attend the live sessions.
The published lecture recordings have received extremely positive feedback from both students and external evaluation panels. This represents a relatively new practice in higher education, aimed at increasing access to knowledge, improving the student learning experience, and enabling greater inclusiveness and flexibility in the study process.
Minimum Software and IT Equipment Requirements
The primary platform for live lecture streaming is the e-classroom, which is accessible online through New University’s server and does not require the installation of additional software on students’ computers or mobile devices.
Students can access the e-classroom via the portal https://eucilnica.nova-uni.si/ using their Microsoft account. Microsoft accounts are provided to students by New University, and all login credentials are issued upon enrolment.
In addition to the aforementioned platforms, in specific circumstances (e.g. technical limitations), lectures may also be streamed live via Zoom (either in combination with Moodle or directly). Students will be able to access Zoom lectures through a link provided by the faculty.
The recommended specifications for computers or mobile devices used by students to participate in distance learning are as follows:
- Computer: Dual-core processor, 8 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD, LAN, Wi-Fi AC wireless connectivity, HD 1080p camera, microphone, speakers or headphones with a microphone, and an operating system that supports Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers. Internet connection: 20 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload.
- Mobile device (tablet or smartphone): Hexa-core processor, 4 GB RAM, HD 1080p camera, and an operating system that supports Safari, Chrome or Firefox browsers. LTE or Wi-Fi connectivity with an internet connection of 20 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload.
For the smooth operation of all New University applications, we recommend using the Google Chrome browser.
Student attendance at lectures and tutorials is recorded through the Student Attendance Recording Application, available at https://evidence.nova-uni.si/.
To register attendance successfully, students need a New University Microsoft account and a smartphone. If your mobile phone does not support barcode scanning, please contact the Student Affairs Office of your faculty.
Technical Support and Professional Assistance
In the event of technical difficulties while participating in distance learning lectures, students should notify the Student Affairs Office of their home faculty. In cooperation with New University’s IT Department, the office will ensure that students receive appropriate technical support and professional assistance.
