Course Content:
The course presents, elaborates and teaches understanding of diplomatic and consular law as well as related topics.
– Diplomatic and consular law. This is the main and most thorough part of the course. We present, elaborate, discuss and comment diplomatic and consular law generally and along some most important aspects. A detailed presentation and discussion of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, including numerous practical examples constitute the main part of the course as a whole.
– Diplomatic protocol and diplomacy as a profession. We present, comment and discuss various selected topics within the diplomatic protocol (primarily diplomatic correspondence and ceremonial), with numerous practical examples. We also discuss and comment diplomacy as a profession (vs. ad hoc diplomats, experts, bureaucrats, etc.) and link them also with some aspects of the future development of diplomacy.
– We present and discuss general outlines of the history of Slovenian diplomacy, main periods and some selected personalities, with a special emphasis on the diplomacy of the Slovenian state.
